Warrington Speakers Club is entering it’s 50th Year

Yes 50 years of speaking in Warrington, Cheshire; but how should WSC best mark such a memorable milestone?

* Display picture boards in reception at the village hotel were we meet 2nd Thursday of the month.

* Update papers including the “Warrington Guardian” with regular features detailing a potted history with land marks in the clubs development

* Arrange Educational Seminars around the district to challenge communication and speaking standards.

* Hold an ambitiously large Annual Dinner, with extra special key note speakers, inviting area, northern & national speaking clubs, friends, guests and interested parties.

* Host speaking competitions.

* Offer more advice and speech coaching for wedding speeches and other groups.

These are some preliminary thoughts, wouldn’t it be great to crystallise a significant idea.

Your thoughts and imput would be appreciated.

Warrington Speakers Club reports on a balloon debate competition

Balloon debate June 2011

The June meeting saw 5 speakers in a balloon basket speaking for their lives.
As the balloon lost height, four of the characters in the basket needed to be ejected.
Barack Obama started with passionate rhetoric but floundered on his achievements for America, next a belligerent Lord Sugar made a straight talking plea but ended up being fired from the basket. Simon Cowell tugged on the heart stings with Gareth Gates and then threats of sending round the heavies in the form of Susan Boyle but sadly ran out of Xfactor. Despite an enthusiastic Boris Johnson planning the London Olympics for the country, he nevertheless ended up being jettisoned. Not surprisingly Ken Dodd prevailed with a mixture of rapid fire comedy and clever word pictures justifying being spared and speaker Paul Whittle was presented with a well deserved prize for speaking in character, with humour
A topics session was followed by the general evaluator who highlighted the positive whilst detailing ways in which speakers could have enhanced each speech. A thoroughly entertaining evening was enjoyed by all. To attend future events or to learn more do visit
